A Winning Tradition
The Athletic Program at Grosse Pointe South High School is rich with tradition. From the time South was "The High" to its back-to-back Girls' Lacrosse and Girls' Hockey State Championships, the Athletic Program has been a source of great pride for the school district and community. We are understandably proud of our Athletic Program as it has withstood the test of time.
As proud as we are of the athletic achievements of our teams and student-athletes, we are even more proud of their academic successes. Each year South is among the conference and state leaders in Academic All-State athletes, and MHSAA Scholar Athletes Award qualifiers and recipients. Through the efforts and dedication of our excellent coaching staff, teaching staff, administrative team, and students and parents, our student-athletes are truly students first.
Included among the lessons to be learned from education-based athletics are:
Lifelong friendships, experiencing and learning team work, development of sportsmanship as participant and spectator, goal setting and competing with others as well as ones self, and being a great teammate for life.
Vision
Through the spirit of competition, teamwork, and self-sacrifice, the vision of the Grosse Pointe South High School Athletic Department is to create well-rounded student-athletes. This education-based athletic approach provides every student-athlete the lessons needed on their journey toward self-awareness. All student-athletes shall aspire to gain the necessary skills to identify and utilize their talents with focus and accuracy to reach their own unique potential and become a great teammate for life.
Mission
The fundamental purpose of the Grosse Pointe South High School Athletic Department is to promote character, though competitive sports. South Athletics exists to create well-rounded student athletes by providing learning experiences that improve social-behavior, as well as academic success. The Blue Devil P.R.I.D.E. – Character Based Education Program – will serve as the instructional model to execute the Mission of the Grosse Pointe South High School Athletic Department.
